Mini-Ramble: A Lengthy Description of Something MC Hates (Learn to Roleplay).

Hello, all.  G-star here.  Sorry I didn't post yesterday, but we finally started the written work in business class and didn't have time.  But I'll make up for it today, with an in-depth article about something Patveli and MC treat with disdain...roleplaying.
Firstly, roleplaying is not a chat room.  It can be if used the wrong way, but I try to avoid those kinds of sites.  Done right, it is no more and no less than multiplayer creative writing.  One person (sometimes two) come up with a plot, set up a thread, and gather users to play characters to certain conformities.  Sometimes there is a limit to the number of characters, sometimes you just make one up and jump in, but almost always there is a character "skeleton" with the required information the GM (Game Master) will need to know about your character.  Personally, I prefer skeleton threads, since the characters are a little easier to tell apart and look up facts about, but if you don't like spending time writing up a whole background then you might like jump-in roleplays.
That being said, there are a couple different types of websites for roleplays.  The one I prefer has a couple different categories for the plot and you can make your own stories whenever you want, with an Out Of Character and an In Character thread, separately.  On the site I'm currently using, skeletons are required and admins have to check over each and every OOC thread.  It must be hard.
A site I tried a while ago was completely different, though.  There were maybe fifteen roleplay 'worlds' in each genre category, and each one contained hundreds of threads.  You couldn't interact with every character at once like in the smaller stories I favor, but instead had to write a short plot somewhere within that world and invite some people to join you in it.  That was just too complicated and didn't have enough choices, so I ditched it.
I enjoy roleplaying because you can write whatever you want, but you don't have to do it by yourself.  I've known some people to write short stories or even books about roleplays they participated in.  It can give inspiration for stories or just be practice for future writing.  And chatting is very rare and is usually limited to questions about the roleplay.
Well, MC?  Do you understand my hobby a little better now?  Have Patveli read this.  I'll continue it tomorrow with how I make my character skeletons.  I had intended to do that today, but figured I had better make sure you understand what I'm talking about first.  (I never did that Pokemon, but oh well.  That's sort of to be expected.)  So instead, I'll talk about character skellies tomorrow.  Until then, this is G-star, signing off.

     Roleplaying Vocabulary

  • GM/Game Master - Creator of the roleplay, approves character skeletons and creates the IC.
  •  OOC/Out Of Character thread - Where a short summary of the roleplay plot is given and people can submit their character skeletons for approval.
  • IC/In Character thread - Where the real roleplaying goes on.  Any and all OOC questions and chatting is to be avoided here.  Timeskips and lengthy two-person interaction is common here.
  • Forms/Character skeletons (Skellies)- Short forms with relevant information about roleplay characters.  Often include anime-style pictures of the characters in question.  Ex:

    Name:
    Age:
    Gender:
    Appearance (pic please!):
    Personality:
    Short Bio:
    Other:
  • Thread - A part of a roleplay forum that can posted, taken down, or edited at will.  They are the first post of the IC or OOC of a roleplay.  This is where everyone involved in the roleplay posts.
  • Post - A submitted segment of your character's interaction with another.  I really can't summarize this.
  • Subscriptions - Specific threads that are set to send you notifications when posted on.
  • Signature (Siggie) - The pictures and/or text that appear underneath your posts.  Can be personalized to preference.
  • Bio/Biography - A short (sometimes) summary of your character's past, family, and experiences.  Sometimes includes their personality as well.
  • Accept - A function of GM's; to look over a character skelly and make sure it meets specifications.
  • Timeskip - A common occurance in more detailed roleplays where the GM skips any and all interactions until a set time (often used to avoid lengthy conversations before exciting or important parts).

Screw Japanese, I've Got Magic (Poke the Dog/Annoying List)!

Hello, all.  G-star here, typing from Business class and wearing the bunny ears I bought for my Halloween costume last year.  T-dog (the boy in business who sits next to me) hates me for it.  Heheh.  Speaking of which, I got the class to call me "Cat" (have I mentioned this?  Gomen'nasai if I did) and since T-dog, originally "T-biscuit", seems to enjoy irritating me and copying off my answers, the class unanimously decided to call him T-dog.  There's your origin story.  The guy who sits next to T-dog wants me to say that he's hot.  Not that that's true or anything.  Back to the recap.  Not too much has happened this week, I don't think, except...last Friday the Minecraft club introduced me to the card game Magic, The Gathering (you've probably heard of it, but it's new to me) and it's pretty fun.  I plan on buying a deck soon.  Speaking of clubs, I have this nagging feeling that I've missed every Japanese club meeting since the introduction...enforced by the fact that the president of the club said they would put up new posters with the meeting times and the only new posters I've seen say the same thing as the originals.  So I guess it meets on Fridays at lunch...?  Oops.  Well, anyway, I don't have much else to say, so I should probably go.  I'll see about writing a list of things that drive me nuts when I get home, since they've been slowly accumulating, but for now you'll just have to wait and check in again after school.  I might start posting twice a week, as well, so I can post a list on Wednesday and a summary of the week on Saturdays?  What do you think?  Tell me in the comments or on my Google+ page.  For now, G-star out.

     Things That Really Annoy Me
  • People saying things like "you times/plus/minus this and this and you get..." [when talking about math] (Geez, how hard is it to just say SUBTRACT, ADD, AND MULTIPLY?!  Even my geometry teacher does this!!)
  • When people in chat rooms or in comments don't bother with capitalization, punctuation, or even grammar.  (Even the ones you can tell are somewhat mature don't know what prefixes and suffixes to put on a verb)
  • When a new song is on the radio and they just play it over, and over, and over, and over....
  • When a bunch of girls in a car do repetitive, pointless hand games THE ENTIRE TIME.  (Makes me want to become a serial killer....)
  • When the hallways are really crowded and everyone tries to stuff themselves through a doorway at once....
  • In Minecraft when I lag so much that I can't even move one block before lagging right back to where I was just standing.  (Although I guess that's a given...)
  • People spamming the comments on Youtube videos saying "THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID" or "YOUR MOM/FACE IS ____".
  • When I'm too distracted by really good Nightcore mixes to write a decent list or remember what I was originally going to write.  -_-  I'm sorry, I'll fix it once I recall the original points...

Club Cooperation, Please (My Lucky 5)?

Hello, all.  G-star here, typing from the school library with fifteen minutes until school, so I'd better hurry.  Too bad I can't think of much to talk about...let's see, I guess I'll go over my club problem.  It had been my dream ever since I signed up for ____ (my school here) to join a club...or several, in my case.  I've looked at several clubs, and, well, the problem is that I want to join them ALL.  Here's a short list of club's I've checked out and how they went...

Clubs I've Looked At (So Far)
  • Cupcake Club (Seems fun, but too much for my first year, I think)
  • Minecraft Club (Ridiculously unorganized, but fun, and nice people)
  • Japanese Club (Too outgoing food-wise for me, but...but they have cosplay day... +_+)
  • Book/Battle of the Books Club (Everything I've ever dreamed of...and MC's in it!  I had planned to join this one from the beginning, too, but it's a year-long commitment.)
And that's it.  I can't decide for the life of me!  Added to these, I have Tuesday night bible studies, daily homework, blogging, and, hopefully, free time.  (Hopefully...)  What do you think?  Which one???  Post your opinions in the comments below.  Now, this next part isn't really relevant, but I thought it was kind of cool; last night I was listening to the radio on my MP3 player and a bunch of my favorite songs were playing on different stations, one after the other, not crossing over at all.  Cool, right?  Yeah, I know, not really...  But here's my "Lucky 5" radio playlist (with the stations I heard them on):

      My Lucky 5 Radio Playlist
  1.  The Best Song Ever (One Direction; STAR; no, I'm not a fangirl, it's just a great song)
  2. Faceless (Red; air1; now THIS is the best song ever!!)
  3. The One That Got Away (Katy Perry; Mix; I'm not obsessed, but it's really catchy)
  4. Semi-Charmed Life (Third Eye Blind; BOB; one of my favorites for a long time)
  5. Into You (Paramore; STAR; I'll never get tired of this song)
Again, that's it.  Really, not too much happened this week, yet still enough for me to write two different lists...well, I'll see you next week, hopefully with more to talk about.  For now, G-star out.

Early Arrival, Late Start (Library Love).

Hello, all.  G-star here, writing from high school!  (At least for this first paragraph.  Not that I separate my blog into paragraphs or anything...)  I promised I'd write you a list of clichés I hate, and I will.  Right now, though, I'm a bit worried, since I accidentally took my classmate's French book in my rush to leave the classroom.  ^-^"  And since that's the only class I have with her, and we have homework tomorrow, I'm going to rush during lunch to see if I can find her...I probably won't, though...  Anyway, I'm having a good time so far, although it's going to be a long year for geometry.  The teacher doesn't really teach us much, just gives us work, and doesn't even correct our work!
***************************
I'm back from school.  Sorry, that was a really bad place to stop, but that can't be helped.  Business class was starting.  ^-^  *gets ice cream and settles in*  Alrighty then.  First things first.  This morning I rode my bike to school for the first time (my middle school was too far away) so I could be a little early and work on a picture I'm drawing.  You know how sometimes in manga there are bonus stories where the characters' genders are switched?  Well, it's like that with all the people I've met so far at high school, and, of course, MC.  I'll see if I can post it here when I'm done, though it won't be colored this time.  Anyway, the first day I decided to be early happened to be a "late start" day (have I mentioned this before?) where school doesn't start until 9:30 so the teachers can have a meeting, and the doors don't open until 8:30 (I think they normally open at 8?).  So I sat outside, fortunately for only about ten minutes, since the IHS students (I don't know why only us, but whatever) were let in early.  I checked out the library, and I think I'm going to have a good year...  They have all the manga I can never find at the big libraries, and their fiction genre is extensive!!!  So I'll be riding my bike to school every day (except when it rains, or, of course, on weekends) so I can get there early and check out a manga.  Yaaay, Inuyasha vol. 3.... ||D  Oh, and I had wasabi peas, pickled lotus root, and candied ginger in literature class.  Don't ask.  Just don't ask.  Here's that list I promised, although since some poster children of clichés I name might be offended, I'll just call them clichés I prefer to avoid being/doing/writing.  Enjoy!  Until next week, G-star out.
      Clichés I avoid being/doing/writing:
  • The teenager who's always on her phone (I really don't care for texting anyway, and I don't have a smartphone so no apps)
  • Wearing layered/poncho tees
  • Writing a main character in a dystopian fiction who's a girl (even though I am right now)
  • Saying "and/so, like" a lot
  • Wearing makeup (mainly because I don't like to...it's annoying, and oily, and easily messed up, and....)
  • Writing a cold, arrogant/nervous, shy glasses character (they're too common)
  • Social networking (it's too addictive)
  • Obsessing over celebrity dating (I just don't see why it's so interesting to complete strangers)
  • Hanging out with a clique constantly (it's much more interesting to get to know different people every day)

I'll Never Be Able To Decide On Just ONE College Degree, Will I.... (My Brother and the Bottomless Pit)

Hello, all.  Not much happened last week, so this should be relatively short.  One thing, though, is that my brother has not been having the best week.  This Sunday my family went to a church picnic.  It was all going well until my brother realized his sweater was gone.  He had left it with some other people's stuff (why, I'll never know) and when they left both their stuff and his sweater disappeared.  A couple days later he realized his glasses were gone too.  Unlike me, he only wears them when he watches TV/movies or we go out somewhere, so they aren't as essential, but our parents are still freaking out.  I wonder if he'll find them...  *checks to see if he found them while she wasn't paying attention*  Nope.  Probably never.  Alrighty then, since I have all this extra space, I think I'll write a list.  A subject came to mind earlier that you might be interested in, but first, an update on MC's and my "Dystopian Fantasy".  I've finished the first page of Chapter 2, and when we reviewed it, we were in awe of just how different our styles are.  This is going to be...interesting.  And as I was considering this, it occurred to me just how many different businesses and stories MC and I have tried to start...  So far, our current book is the only one that's even barely succeeded, but here are some others, and how they went, for your enjoyment...  Keep in mind, a lot of these were years ago.  See you next week.  G-star, signing off.

Assorted Occupations by Miss Cappuccino and Myself

  • Fashion designers (came up with some designs, but never made a real article of clothing)
  • Band (found some songs, rehearsed them, then gave up)
  • Hair accessory makers (drew a picture; that's it)
  • Dog walkers (made flyers but got no business)
  • Comic writers (made characters and forgot about it)
  • Desk toy/action figure makers (sold some to my family and then forgot about it)
  • Film directors/actors (filmed the first couple scenes for one, then forgot about it)
  • Music video(ers?) (made some when we were little; they were cute, but they kind of stunk)
  • Tons and tons of, of course, lemonade stands (I think you can guess...)
  • Journal/Diary makers (now that I think about it, this was mainly me...and I still have some; it went surprisingly well >_>)
  • Bloggers/Website Designers.... (I think you can see how that went.  Haha.  She helped me with one blog site, we made another for some recordings, and one more just for the heckofit.  None of them received any views/visits. u.u)

Little Miss Otaku (Two Amateur Authors).

Hello, all.  I said I would, and I will...  A POST ALL ABOUT MY ANIME OBSESSION!  Well, and other things to...  Before I ramble for twenty minutes about my favorite characters, however, I'll write a recap of what's happened this week.  First, Miss Cappuccino is spontaneously going on vacation to California tomorrow.  We'll still Skype, though, since she has it on her phone.  And we have a reason to!  We have recently began work on what we call a "Dystopian Fantasy".  I won't say much on it because we don't want the idea taken, but I will say it's the best we've made so far.  We've tried many times to write stories, novels, comics, etc... but we always stopped after making a character and a very vague plot.  But I tell ya, this is gonna be it!!!  I'll tell you how it goes.  We'll work on it over Skype while MC's on vacation and then when she's back.  Now for the meat of the post...  For at least two years I've had an obsession with manga, starting with the children's manga Animal Academy by Hakobune Hakusho and going from there to the young adult section eventually.  My favorite manga are probably Aya Kanno's Otomen, CLAMP's Tsubasa, and Maki Minami's Special A.  The art isn't the best ever for the last one, but it's really funny.  For some reason, I try to avoid most of the more popular anime, probably because I hate clichés, and if I become a Sasuke fan then I'll be a walking cliché!  Stupid clichés...  I'm actually a pretty good artist myself and I've drawn a couple of fan-art pictures and I plan to write a manga once my art improves a little more.  I'll post my fanart after I finish each picture, but only if you remember the copyright, okay?  Yeah.  Anyway, there's this thing about good manga/anime where I become obsessive over one character, (usually a guy,) but only for really good ones.  Maybe because the characters are better developed?  Wow, I thought this post would be better than this.  Since I've used up most of my writing skills today making up Dystopian Fantasy, maybe I'll just write a list...  Oh, and I'm going on a high school youth group coast retreat tomorrow, so that's probably what next week's post will be about.  G-star, signing out.  See you next week!
